Social Science Research Center

Overview

The Social Science Research Center (SSRC) is the research coordinating arm of the College of Arts and Sciences. As such, it coordinates the research efforts of the various Social Science departments, implements the research directions for the College, provides avenues for the involvement of graduate students in research, and strengthens the capability of CAS faculty to undertake research through the provision of training programs in various aspects of research.

The SSRC evolved from the now-defunct Area Research Training Center (ARTC) and, although formally constituted in year 2000 with the appointment of a Coordinator, it has continued to carry out studies in Ad Hoc capacity since 1995.

The SSRC establishes linkages and networks outside of the university, sources funding for research undertakings, and assists social science students through the sharing of database and providing opportunities for fieldwork.

Vision

The Social Science Departments in the College have clearly articulated research agenda which are regularly carried out by motivated, adequately-trained faculty and students whose end-view is to add to the body of knowledge for use in curriculum upgrading and for dissemination through fora and publications.

Mission

To provide and develop infrastructure, facilities, and a sustainable program in support of department research initiatives.
